Engineering data and line groups

Add equipment properties and keep connected process segments under one line number.

On this page
  1. Save engineering properties
  2. Custom properties
  3. Create a line group
  4. Edit inherited fields

Save engineering properties #

  1. Select a symbol or line and expand Properties → Engineering data.
  2. Fill in the relevant fields, such as service, size, specification, manufacturer, model, material or rating.
  3. Choose Save engineering data. This also saves pending canvas layout edits before applying the properties.

Size, design pressure and design temperature are text fields: include units, for example 4 in, 10 barg and 120 °C. These fields do not convert units or validate a specification catalogue. The separate Unit field means the plant unit.

Custom properties #

Choose Add custom property, enter a unique name, then select Text, Number or Boolean. Numbers must be finite; Boolean values use True or False. You can keep up to 50 custom properties on an object.

Choose Save engineering data after adding, changing or removing properties. A valve-sizing result is inserted into this same list and still needs this save step.

Create a line group #

  1. Select a process segment and expand Line Group / Line Number.
  2. Choose New line group or an existing group.
  3. Enter Service, Size, Spec and Line number. For example, CW, 4 in, CS150 and 001 display as CW–4 in–CS150–001.
  4. Select the process segments, then choose Create line group or Save line group.

Connected process segments through valves and inline components join the group automatically. Equipment, off-page connectors and signal lines stop automatic propagation. You can explicitly include disconnected process segments in the same group.

Edit inherited fields #

Group members inherit service, size, spec, material, rating, design pressure, design temperature, area, unit, status and line number. Inherited controls are disabled in the object’s Engineering data form: edit them in the line group form instead.

Manufacturer, model, fail position and custom properties stay specific to each object. Newly connected process segments through existing members inherit the group. A connection that would join conflicting groups is rejected; resolve the assignments before connecting them.

Remove line group removes membership while keeping each member’s last engineering values. Undo and Redo restore group edits and membership. Displayed line numbers also appear in SVG exports.
